The project, called "Test Drive Studio", goes something like this: when consumers walk into a participating dealership, they'll be offered test drives in the mid-size Malibu and the Equinox and Traverse crossovers.
After that, GM puts its (and the US taxpayers') money where its mouth is: they'll offer people the chance to go out in comparable Fords, Toyotas, and Hondas.
It looks like GM has chosen a more aggressive price approach with the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox crossover that will start from $23,185, or $1,800 less than the previous generation Equinox when it goes on sale in the U.S. this June. Chevy's latest crossover will be offered with two new engines, a 182HP 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Ecotec which delivers an estimated 30 mpg highway and 21 mpg city, and a 264HP 3.0-liter V6 that returns an estimated 25 mpg highway, 18 mpg city. Despite the fact that the all-new Equinox carries a smaller price than its predecessor, the General supports that the list of standard equipment is longer including more airbags, power lumbar support, and 17" wheels.
During this past weekend, Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2010 Equinox, a compact crossover that will be available with two new direct injection engines, a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 182HP and a 3.0-liter V6 delivering 255HP. The vehicle will make its world debut at the North American Auto Show in Detroit next month with sales following in mid-2009. Follow the jump to check out the video.
GM announced a recall involving 57,100 MY 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent SUVs not equipped with optional roof rail airbags or optional sunroof. During NHTSA impact tests of these specific models, the interior occupant protection test points exceeded the standard requirements. The results of this test indicated a possibility of an increased risk of head injury in a crash. The recall is expected to begin during January 2008 with GM dealers installing an energy absorbing foam piece to each of the a-pillar trim assemblies.
