In an attempt to tone down the angst, the Fiat Group responded to reports saying that if it were to acquire Opel from GM, there would be approximately 18,000 job losses in Germany. The Italian firm said that the comments were "entirely unfounded" and that its plans for total employee reductions are less than 10,000 and would take place gradually and be distributed throughout the maker's European operations. "The impact for the workforce in Germany, therefore, would be significantly lower than speculated," Fiat said in a statement. Well, that makes about "8,000" workers across Europe feel safer about their future...
