Mazda Carol Hot-Rod Wannabe
You’ve gotta give plenty of credits to the Japanese students of the Shizuoka Professional College of Automobile Technology for building this cool and Mazda Carol Hot-Rod wannabe. The students combined the body and interior of a 60’s Mazda Carol (rear-engined) with the all-wheel-drive powertrain and chassis of a mid 80’s Suzuki Jimny / Samurai. Too bad that they decided to retain the Suzuki’s puny 23 HP strong 0.5-liter engine unit. -More pics after the jump

The Bavarian carmaker’s Geneva Motor Show stand will host the worldwide debut of an eco-friendly concept car that has never been seen before. There are no pictures or details on the car and the only thing that BMW says is that the new will showcase the outlook and future direction of its EfficientDynamics programme -feel free to speculate. For those of you wondering what “EfficientDynamics” stands for, its BMW’s way of characterizing the concept (or the overall technologies used) to overcome the apparent conflict of interests between better performance and greater fuel economy plus low emissions. These camera-phone pictures of the Volkswagen Scirocco’s brochure where leaked into the net late last night. Though the images are too small to make any conclusions, the fact that VW has created the brochure means it won’t take long before the compact coupe makes an official debut –maybe even at the Geneva Show. The engineers of tuning firm BRABUS have developed a new special auxiliary module for the electronic engine management system for the new Mercedes E 300 BLUETEC called the “BRABUS PowerXtra D6 BLUE”. While the kit boosts power output by 47 HP at the same time exhaust emissions stay below the permissible limits of EURO V by up to 65 percent. After the conversion operation, which can be performed at any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel produces 258 HP at 3,700 rpm and a max torque figure of 610 Nm (450 lb-ft), up from standard 540 Nm (398 lb-ft). The BRABUS-tuned E 300 BLUETEC sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 sec (vs 7.2 sec of the standard model) and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). -Continued
The BRABUS power kit is available for €1,790 or $2,650 and it’s backed by the BRABUS Tuning Warranty of three years, up to 100,000 km or 62,000 miles.

VW’s Spanish subsidiary SEAT has launched the eco-friendly Leon Ecomotive that gives us a good example of how European carmakers plan to fight the energy and environmental issues of our time. The Leon Ecomotive is equipped with VW Group’s ultra frugal 105 HP 1.9 TDi turbo-diesel unit that has received additional improvements to its electronic management. Also, the compact hatch's gear ratios are 8.2% longer overall due to the lengthening of the third, fourth and fifth gears. various modifications. -Continued Furthermore, the improvements also incorporate the weight of the vehicle, which has been reduced thanks to the detailed study of the equipment package and the elimination of certain options, and thanks to lower resistance tyres, making it possible to mount 195/ 65 tyres on 15 inch wheels or 205/ 55 tyres on 16 inch wheels. The result is an avg. consumption figure of just 3.9 l/100 km or 60.3 MPG and a C02 emiisons of just 119 g/km.
Geneva Show: Pininfarina Sintesi Supercar Concept
Renowned Italian design house Pininfarina has released the first official sketch of its Sintesi supercar concept that will make its debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in early March. Pininfarina hasn’t released any mechanical details on the Sintesi, but its head designer, 33-year-old Lowie Vermeersch had a few things to say about the concept.“This concept car is the synthesis of our values, of the love for our work and our passion for innovation, of beauty driven by functionality, of sportiness and elegance. However, Sintesi isn’t only the expression of Pininfarina design; it also embraces innovative technologies that allow us to explore new typologies of mobility, active safety and packaging solutions” stated Vermeersch.
